Walker Family Cemetery in Harris County Georgia Links back to the Walker Family page or to the Walker Plantation Houses page On the grounds of Rich Billy's plantation was the Walker Family Cemetery. It is a small cemetery, only about 12 identified graves (possibly a few unidentified). The cemetery is on private property, and is in a state of great disrepair. I have been given some photos of the cemetery from over the years, so I will post a few here. Note: Unless otherwise indicated, all photos on this page are courtesy of Abigail Dougherty. Find-a-Grave - I have also added the Walker Cemetery to the Find-a-Grave web site, posting relevant information and creating memorials for each person with an identified grave in the cemetery. I've also linked graves in this cemetery to the graves of family members (parents and offspring) in other cemeteries, where I have been able to locate them. From several hand-written drawings that were provided to me, I have created the following map of the grave locations in the Walker Family Cemetery. You can click here to get a full-screen copy. The History of Harris County by Barfield (ref 2, page 559) there is a listing of the graves in the cemetery (referred to as the William Walker Cemetery). In addition to those identified in the map, it mentions:
The Barfield book doesn't mention the Lula Phillips nor the Alexander Walker graves. It does, However, have listing for Graves in the Walker-Mitchell-McDougald Cemetery near Mulberry Grove, and in the Merriott Walker Family Lot in the Union Springs Cemetery in Union Springs, AL. There are relatives of Rich Billy in those cemeteries, so I will include those in notes at the bottom of this page. Here are some photos of the cemetery from over the years. Click on the photo for links. Circa 1963: Circa 2010: Mary Vivion Walker, wife of William "Rich Billy" Walker: Virgil Homer Walker, son of Rich Billy and Mary. Note the Mason marking. There a story behind this. Thacker Vivion Walker, son of Rich Billy and Mary. William G. Walker, son of Rich Billy and Mary: There are Walker graves scattered across Georgia, Alabama, and Texas (at least). While this page was focusing on the Walker Family Cemetery on Rich Billy's plantation, I will include a litle bit of information I pulled frm the Barfield book, since it was also referencing the Walker Family Cemetery (and the book can be hard to get if you don't live in the Harris County area). Merriott Walker Family Lot in the Union Springs Cemetery in Union Springs, AL. includes:
Barfield also mentions the Walker-Mitchell-McDougald Cemetery near Mulberry Grove. In it lies:
